Arctic Oulu invites you to joy of fencing

With its 130.000 residents Oulu is the biggest town in Northern Finland. The town has been established by the King Carl IX year 1605. In the past Oulu was known as a town of wood, tar and salmon. Nowadays Oulu is a famous center of high technology and wellness technology, paper mills and steel industryAmong other activities, Oulu is one of Finlands University centers.

University of Oulu
The University of Oulu is an international science community, whose core strength lies in multidisciplinary basic research and high-quality education based on it. Although its academic offerings span over 70 disciplines, the university’s concentrated research policy channels the efforts of researchers into three focus areas: Information Technology and Wireless Communications, Biotechnology and Molecular Medicineas well as Northern and Environmental Issues. Founded in 1958, the University of Oulu is among the largest in Finland. The are approximately 16.000 students at the University of Oulu.

Oulu University of Applied Sciences
The Oulu University of Applied Sciences began to offer higher vocational education in 1992. It responds to the business and employment needs of Northern Finland by arranging and developing training at the higher vocational education level. Presently there are approximately 8,300 students at Oulu University of Applied Sciences.

Oulu – easy to arrive

Oulu is a northern town. It lies in the west coast of Gulf of Bothnia at the mouth of river Oulujoki. There are several ways to arrive in Oulu. You can arrive to Oulu by car or bus, by train or by plain - in fact the Oulu Airport is the second busiest in Finland.
If you arrive to Helsinki by plane it is easy to continue your trip to Oulu from Helsinki Airport. There are a lot of domestic connections from Helsinki to Oulu.
If you get in Finland by boat (Turku or Helsinki) it is simpliest to take a train. Traveling time from Helsinki to Oulu is approximately six hours and of course you can travel by night with sleeping cabin.
In Oulu youl´ll find many hotels and hostels you can stay while visiting in town.
